Petrolhead Unlocked: Alfa Romeo

Like Jeremy Clarkson rightfully said “to be a true petrolhead, you must own a Alfa Romeo”

and this is Very true, Alfa’s are truely terrible when it comes to build quality, materials used, handeling and many other things, but they do have one thing that no other car can give you (besides a Maserati maybe) thats the soul of cars.

driving a car like this is always a Joy, i drive a Alfa Romeo 156, of course with Selespeed, wich is a total pain to drive anything slower than 60km/h, in short this car wants to go quick.

Yet the many times it broke down on me, the headached it gave me while owning it, expensive insurance and many other things, i never regret buying it as the times it actually worked, it gave me (us) alot of joy by providing true GT feeling and handeling, even the 156 is far from being a “proper GT Car”.

i bought it from my good friend Joerg Szwalkiewicz (Manager of Pattaya Agency) back in 2009, alot of people told me that this was one of the reasons for the troubles i had with it, but this is just not true, as i “test drove” the car for like 6 months before actually purchasing it as Jörg basically let me daily drive it for all this time, and at some point i just decided not to return it, and got it legally off his hands.

you can’t really blame the previous owner after driving the car for like 20.000km already!

we drove the car over 120.000km all over Thailand, wich was always a joy, went on some car-meets to make some new friends, even the cats got a piece of it, all the pain with Selespeed and the engine destroyed by flood, it was still worth it.

in August 2012 i sold the car to a friend and purchased a Mercedes Benz shortly after.

below is a small gallery of random Alfa-ish pictures.
